Drupal for beginners and none Linux users

Submitted by rnsrk on

If you want to install Drupal on your local machine without a global server configuration, we recommend you to use our VirtualBox image, XAMPP or DDEV.

Our VirtualBox image allows you to use a preconfigured WissKI environment. Just install VirtualBox with Extension Pack on your system, download the VM-WissKI-Image and mount it via the VirtualBox Manager.

XAMPP is a GUI-driven possibility to install Drupal on Windows, MacOS and Linux. It is a simple way for beginners to get a taste of Drupal. You find further instructions to install Drupal on XAMPP here.

DDEV is a simplified docker-environment especially for development and managed over console in MacOS and Linux and over the Powershell in Windows. It is closer to the production workflow and therefore more suitable for advanced users. Here is a guide to install a Drupal demo site with DDEV.
