About the Workshop

Digital Humanities (DH) research requires interoperable, semantically structured data to support sustainable and computational analysis. In AI-driven contexts, the modelling of cultural heritage and collection data determines how knowledge can be connected, interpreted, and reused across institutional and national boundaries. 

This half-day workshop introduces ontology-based modelling and semantic workflows using WissKI (Scientific Communication Infrastructure), an open-source environment for RDF-based modelling and Linked Open Data (LOD) publication based on standards such as CIDOC CRM. Developed within the German SODa initiative, the workshop combines semantic technologies with reusable, pedagogically structured training concepts and contributes to sustainable skills development through an Open Educational Resource (OER) train-the-trainer approach. 

The workshop is organised into three modules
(1) introduction to semantic modelling, CIDOC CRM, and domain analysis; 
(2) ontology modelling and semantic structuring with Protégé; and 
(3) implementation and validation of graph-based structures in WissKI using Draw.io and the WissKI Pathbuilder. Guided exercises and preparatory materials support participants throughout the workflow from conceptual modelling to machine-readable RDF graphs. 

By combining theoretical foundations, practical implementation, and reflective discussion this workshop empowers researchers and collection professionals to build transparent, interoperable data structures that extend beyond institutional and national boundaries.
