Submitted by rnsrk on
The WissKI User Meeting took place from 21-22 November 2023 at the Germanisches Nationalmuseum. Over two days, users, developers, and interested parties gathered to present projects, exchange ideas, and discuss future tasks. The event began with a keynote by Robert Nasarek on Drupal, WissKI, and the community. The meeting highlighted the growing importance of Linked Open Data and semantic data modeling, supported by NFDI4Culture, NFDI4Objects, and NFDI4Memory. WissKI's popularity is rising due to its FAIR data approach and integration capabilities. New features in Drupal 10.2, such as the Project Browser and Automatic Updates, were discussed, and WissKI's readiness for Drupal 10 and upcoming Drupal 11 was noted. The launch of the WissKI Cloud was announced, offering an easy setup for new users. The community has developed platforms like chat.wiss-ki.eu for discussions and established regular Weeklies and Quarterlies for collaborative work. The IGSD e.V. was introduced as a key supporter of semantic data networking and WissKI services. A community survey revealed that most users are involved in museums, art history, archives, and libraries, with a significant focus on semantic data modeling and project management. Preferences for software features include cost-effectiveness, import/export capabilities, and security settings. Presentations covered topics like digital long-term archiving, the WissKI Cloud, and the use of Solr for search functionalities. The SODa project aims to support the digitization of scientific collections, while the CDI at Friedrich-Alexander-Universität Erlangen-Nürnberg provides research data management support. The WissKI API was introduced for easier data import/export, and the NFDI4Objects project focuses on standards for documenting physical objects. The second day featured workshops for beginners and a Barcamp for advanced users, addressing documentation, bulk editing, Solr, multilingualism, and theming.
